Overview

The rapid growth of online sex work has created new opportunities for income and autonomy, while also exposing workers to increasing vulnerability in largely unregulated digital spaces.

As digital sex work continues to rise, so too do issues surrounding mistreatment, exploitation, and the lack of adequate support systems for workers online.

To address this, we set out to create a platform focused on supporting, informing, and building community for digital sex workers.

RESEARCH

Our research revealed that while there are existing resources and support systems for physical sex workers, there is significantly less support available for those working digitally. Many creators lacked access to clear information about their rights, had their content shared beyond their control or without consent, and were left to navigate complex online risks alone.

These insights highlighted the need for accessible guidance, stronger support networks, and safer digital spaces for sex workers, particularly for those entering the industry for the first time.

APPROACH

When approaching this topic, we were highly aware of the fear-mongering narratives that continue to surround sex work, narratives that often attempt to shame sex workers for simply existing and participating in the industry. With this in mind, we knew our approach needed to focus not only on education, but also on empowerment.

We wanted to create a platform that could provide sex workers with the tools, resources, and support needed to navigate digital spaces safely, without fear or shame attached to their work.

Creative

Throughout the creative process, we developed a brand identity that reflects Aftercare’s values and creator-led approach. A bright, vibrant pink was chosen to represent the platform’s non-institutional identity while also reclaiming femininity in a space where it is often exploited or stigmatised.

Our imagery aimed to represent sex workers both within their working environments and as multifaceted individuals beyond their work.

IMPACT

The intended impact of this project was to create a safe, judgement-free space where digital sex workers can access information, resources, and support. At its core, the platform is designed to empower and protect those working within the industry, while fostering a sense of community and trust.

Importantly, the project is envisioned to be developed collaboratively with sex workers themselves, ensuring it remains informed by lived experience and created for the people it aims to support.
